Traffic Stop Leads to Chase, Crash, and Carjacking in South Philadelphia

Police in South Philadelphia are searching for a man they say drove off after an attempted traffic stop, and later carjacked another vehicle with passengers still inside.

Officers attempted to pull over a Ford Mustang near 19 th and Camac Streets after 12:30 a.m. Friday.

Instead of stopping, police say the driver took off, and crashed into a parked vehicle.

The driver then exited the Mustang, and carjacked a Nissan right in front of officers on the 1200 block of Camac Street.

Two women were in the back seat of that Nissan.

Police say the suspect drove a few blocks in the second vehicle before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.

One of the women in the car then drove to 9 th and Ritner Streets, where she flagged down a police officer.

The suspect's description matched the photo of a man on a prison ID card that had been left hanging from the mirror of the Mustang. Police say they are looking for a 28-year-old state prison parole.
