Transformer fire, explosion sends manhole cover flying in Univ. City

UNIVERSITY CITY (WTXF) - Philadelphia Police say and underground transformer fire was the cause of an explosion that sent a manhole cover flying into the air Saturday afternoon.

The explosion occurred on the corner of 30 th and Market Streets around 1:10 p.m.

No injuries were reported as a result of the explosion.

Market Street was closed from 29 th to 30 th while State Police and Amtrak investigate the incident.
