Two men arrested and charged in Berlin diner fire

Two men have been arrested in connection with a fire that destroyed the Country Town Diner in Berlin, N.J.

Robert Zbikowski of Mount Holly, N.J. and Thomas Giannisis, of Bellmawr, were charged with first-degree Arson and second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Arson, among other charges, February 16, according to Camden County officials.

Berlin Borough Police said the fire broke out just before midnight January 10, 2018. They worked with ATF officials in the investigation of the fast moving fire. It was determined the fire began on the second floor of the restaurant. It is alleged that Giannisis hired Zbikowski to set the fire, in the hope of collecting on an insurance claim.

Flames tore through the roof, causing major damage to the building.

No injuries were reported. The owner was not certain the restaurant could be rebuilt.
