Two officers injured after crashing into tree in Southwest Philadelphia

Two Philadelphia Police officer were injured after their police SUV crashed into a tree in Southwest Philadelphia.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. early Tuesday morning at Bartram Avenue and Holstein Avenue near Essington.

The officers were driving up Bartram Avenue towards Holstein Avenue when they somehow lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree.

A male officer was driving and suffered neck and back injuries.

A female officer riding in the passenger's seat suffered a broken leg.

Most of the vehicle damage was on the front of the vehicle toward the passenger's side.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police have not yet said where the officers were headed or if the lights and siren of the vehicle were on. Accident investigators are now looking to see if there could have been a mechanical issue with the car.

Bartram Avenue between Essington and Island remains closed.
