Two people rescued after being trapped in Wilmington house fire

Two people were rescued after they became trapped in a Wilmington house fire.

The incident occurred at 2:36 a.m. Sunday morning on the 3000 block of North Van Buren Street.

Wilmington fire crews responded to reports of a house fire with entrapment.

The occupants of the home were rescued from a second story front porch roof during the early morning fire.

Fire crews rescued a husband and wife from their home after an intentionally set fire had been discovered when the woman of the home was awoken by a noise.

Due to heat and smoke, the two were unable to exit the home and therefore exited from a second floor window onto the porch roof where they were rescued by firefighters.

They were taken to Wilmington Hospital for smoke inhalation and later released.

A firefighter was injured and treated at Wilmington Hospital due to an ankle injury suffered during the fire. He was later released.

The fire is being investigated by the Wilmington Fire Marshal's office as an intentionally set fire.

Red Cross of Delaware provided shelter for the husband and wife that were displaced.
