Uber driver claims passenger stole his phone
PHILADELPHIA (FOX 29) - One Uber passenger is probably not getting five stars after video caught her stealing the Uber driver's phone.
Daniel Ansah loves his job as an Uber driver.
"I have 4.95 stars. I spoil my customers," he told FOX 29.
On Tuesday, video captured his own passenger snatching his smartphone from his middle console. What she may not have noticed was the camera mounted on the dashboard. Daniel says the woman was the second passenger in his Uber pool ride when an argument started.
When it got heated, Daniel says he followed Uber policy and ended the ride.
He dropped the woman off on Allegheny Avenue, but when he was getting her luggage from the trunk, he says, she helped herself to his Samsung S8 +. Daniel also says she swiped it right in front of the other passenger who said nothing.
He called the police and filed a report; however, he says the officers were not interested in watching the video. He then called FOX 29.
So far, police have not seen this video, so we are not identifying the passenger. Daniel just wants his phone back, not for the phone but for all of the pictures of his daughter.
He says Uber can't release the passenger's address because of privacy. The Uber driver is hoping police track down the woman.
Daniel is driving Uber while studying to take the Philadelphia Police Academy exam.
"I would love to protect the city. This is the reason why I want to be a police officer," he said.
FOX 29's Chris O'Connell requested a statement from Uber and has not heard back at this time.
