Universal Alcorn Charter School closed Thursday due to broken boiler
GRAYS FERRY (WTXF) - Universal Alcorn Charter School in Grays Ferry will be closed on Thursday due to a broken boiler.
The boiler left the school without heat or hot water which became problematic as temperatures have dropped in recent days.
The school released a statement on Wednesday regarding the boiler issue:
"Universal Alcorn Charter School was recently alerted of the boiler system not properly working to capacity when we arrived this morning. The maintenance company is currently working to resolve the issue and assured us they would have it operable as quickly as possible. We have inspected each classroom to ensure the temperature climate was suitable for the learning of our scholars and comfortable for teachers and staff. We have informed parents/guardians that if they wish to pick-up their chid/children prior to our noted dismissal time, they are welcome."
The school will also be closed on Friday for Veterans' Day.
