Van, car collision in NJ kills 1, injures 11

MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a collision between a van and a car in New Jersey killed one man and sent 11 other people to hospitals for treatment.

The Middlesex County prosecutor's office says a preliminary investigation indicates that the van failed to yield to a stop sign and collided with the car early Monday in Monroe Township.

Prosecutors said 81-year-old Shashikant Patel of Monroe was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and eight other passengers of the van were taken to hospitals for treatment of injuries described as serious to moderate. Two people in the car were treated for minor injuries.
