Video shown in court: KOP Mall kidnapping suspect with baby's mother
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA (WTXF) - The woman accused of kidnapping a seven-week-old baby boy from the King of Prussia Mall is being held over on all charges, after her preliminary hearing.
That hearing wrapped up late Thursday afternoon.
Cherie Amoore is accused of taking the infant from his mother in the mall's food court, last month. The charges against her include felony kidnapping and unlawful restraint.
FOX 29's Karen Hepp reported video played in court showed what happened.
Two police officers testified it captured the encounter between the Amoore and the baby's mother. They said the pair talked and Amoore befriended the mother. Then, Amoore moved very quickly to take the baby out.
Defense lawyer Marc Steinberg said it appears obvious what his client did. Instead, he said, "It's a case of 'Why did she do it?' So that's something that will be determined later."
Hepp reported Amoore was very emotional in court and so was the baby's mother.
According to court documents, Amoore told detectives she'd lost a baby back in February. Then, when she held the little boy, all those emotions came flooding back.
Steinberg would not confirm nor deny Amoore was ever pregnant and the prosecution could not confirm she was ever pregnant.
Amoore has been out on bail. She's getting counseling.
Up next in this case is a hearing scheduled for June 22.
