Walmart expected to hire hundreds of truck drivers; increase their average pay to nearly $90K a year

Walmart is expected to hire hundreds of truck drivers in 2019 and plans to increase their pay to an average of around $90,000 per year, according to an online report on FoxBusiness.com.

The hires will add to the company's growing fleet of truck drivers which added 1400 new hires in 2018.

To qualify for the positions, potential hires must have 30 months of experience within the past three years and also have a clean safety record.

In addition to the new hires, the company said it is raising the pay of its truck drivers. By February, the report said, Walmart's drivers will earn about 89 cents per mile or about $87,500 per year on average.

FoxBusiness.com says there is a nationwide shortage of truck drivers and that the trucking industry would need to hire nearly 900,000 drivers by 2026 to keep up with demand.
