Watch: Driver stops on interstate after missing exit, causing multi-car pileup, then leaves

Don’t be this driver.

The Ohio Department of Transportation shared video showing what not to do when/if you miss your exit on a busy interstate.

What happened?

Dig deeper:

In the ODOT’s traffic cam video, cars are seen traveling down Interstate 71 and everything looked like business as usual.

However, a red vehicle is then seen stopping abruptly just after it mistakenly passed an exit.

Several other vehicles stopped in time as the red vehicle continued to sit there. However, one van didn’t react quickly enough and crashed into the stopped vehicles, causing a chain reaction.

What they're saying:

The ODOT shared the video as a reminder of what to avoid when/if drivers miss their intended exit.

"When you are driving along a major interstate and you miss your exit do you: A) keep driving and get off at the next one, or B) come to a complete stop, cause a multi-car rear-end crash and then drive away. HINT: The answer is NEVER B. Do not be this driver," the ODOT said on its X account.

Was the driver charged?

What we know:

There were no life-threatening injuries, the ODOT told FOX 8. But a few drivers involved in the crash did get some bumps and bruises and their cars sustained extensive damage.

What we don't know:

The driver of the car that caused the multi-car crash has yet to be identified and it is not yet known if they will face charges.
