Wawa employees thwart shoplifters, 4 arrested

Two men and two women were arrested on Friday morning after they allegedly tried to rob a Wawa and ignited a brawl with store employees.

Two workers at the store on Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia were bit and maced by the alleged shoplifters.

Police say they recovered a box cutter from one of the attackers, but there is no indication that it was used during the fight.

Among the items that were lifted were soda, chips and candy.

Both employees sustained minor injuries.

The four in custody are between 18 and 19 years of age.

Police say that since the shoplifting escalated to a violent brawl, the suspects will likely be charged with armed robbery.
