Wawa shooting suspect arraigned at hospital bedside

Police say the man accused of shooting his ex-wife with an AR-15 style rifle at a Wawa last week is being being treated for a drug overdose at the hospital where he was taken after the incident.

According to authorities, Brian Kennedy gunned down his former partner, Stephanie Miller, at a Wawa in Radnor Township on Thursday night, then fled the scene and allegedly tried to overdose on drugs.

Police say they found Kennedy in Delaware County later that night and emergency responders transported him to the hospital.

On Monday, Kennedy was arraigned at bedside by a Delaware County judge. Once Kennedy is cleared to leave the hospital, authorities will bring him to George W. Hill Correctional Center.

As the investigation continues, focus has turned to the alleged murder weapon.

Officials say Kennedy had a Protection From Abuse order that had been placed on him by his ex-wife. However, the order is said to have expired in Sept. 2018.

Those familiar with Protection From Abuse order laws believe that had the order been in place, Kennedy would not have been able to purchase the weapon.

Police continue to investigate how Kennedy obtained the rifle.
