Weather cancels, reschedules many area fireworks displays

We wish everybody a very happy Independence Day. Most of you have the day off to celebrate and thousands of tourists are in town. There's a lot to do on this July 4; however, some firework displays are being postponed or canceled due to storms moving in later this evening.

The following firework displays have been postponed or canceled:

Due to inclement weather, the POPS performance at Wawa Welcome America tonight has been canceled. The fireworks are still scheduled as planned at 10 p.m.

Collingswood postponed until Tuesday, July 5th

Vineland postponed until Tuesday, July 5th

North Wildwood postponed until Friday, July 8th and Saturday, July 9th

Upper Makefield postponed until Friday, July 8th

Monroe Twp NJ postponed until Tuesday, July 5th

Margate, New Jersey, has postponed its Independence Day fireworks due to rainy weather. Look for the event this Saturday, July 9.

Washington Crossing Park fireworks postponed until Friday

Monroe Township NJ fireworks at Williamstown High School postponed until Tuesday, July 5.

Aston, Pennsylvania's fireworks are postponed until Sunday, July 10.

Washington Crossing Historical Park's fireworks show has been postponed until this Friday, July 8. However, the park's daytime events from noon to 4pm are still on.

In Delaware, Wilmington canceled its festivities. Dover and Newark have postponed theirs.

In Dover, the fireworks display has been rescheduled for Sept. 3. The parade, scheduled to begin at 6pm, has been canceled, as well as evening concerts and other activities. Organizers wrote on the city's website that the event committee is trying to restore those festivities for Labor Day weekend.

Newark has rescheduled its Liberty Day Celebration, including a fireworks display, for Tuesday.

Welcome America events:

10-11am: Celebration of Freedom Ceremony. Tribute with musical performances and inspiring speeches. Independence Hall, 520 Chestnut St.

10am-5pm: Free Museum Day at the National Museum of Jewish American History, 101 S. Independence Mall E.

11am: Independence Day Parade, Independence Mall, 1 N. Independence Mall W.

12-10pm: Party on the Parkway. Neighborhood pavilion and KIDZ BOP Kids. Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

5-10pm: Welcome America! July 4th Concert, free, Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Also happening on this holiday:

1pm Termini Brothers to give away 2,500 free red, white and blue cupcakes, Independence Visitors Center, 1 N. Independence Mall W.

And the Phillies take on the Braves at 4:05pm at Citizens Bank Park. But first, they will honor our nation's heroes with a special on-field Salute to Veterans, beginning at 3:30.

Elsewhere, it's the last Fourth of July at the White House for President Barack Obama and his family, and they're having some people over: military families and two of the president's favorite performers, singer-songwriter Janelle Monae and rapper Kendrick Lamar.
