Flowers marked the trail leading to a shallow grave where 1-year-old Alinya Barnes' body was found this week. Now, 33-year-old caretaker Nyishia Corbitt stands charged with the baby's mother.

Homicide investigators say Corbitt suffocated the child. They say video surveillance from apartments across the street from where the baby's body was found show Corbitt carrying the dead little girl to the park across the street in a child carrier child. She returned without the child, according to police.

"Ms. Corbitt disclosed to her mom that the child had gone missing. She was obviously having problem --no doubt dealing with what had happened," Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit Captain John Ryan said.

Police also explained how baby Alinya ended up in Corbitt's care. The child's mother is in a Montgomery County prison on retail theft charges. The baby's father left the child with Corbitt. The murder occurred October 9th, almost a week before the body was discovered.

Corbitt was charged with murder, tampering with evidence, abuse of corpse and obstruction of justice. No one else has been charged in this case. She is being held without bail and faces a preliminary hearing later this month.
