Woman killed, man wounded, police think they were targeted

An overnight double shooting in Northeast Philadelphia left a woman killed, and a man shot in his face and arm.

It happened just before 1:30am outside the Nottingham building at the Joshua House Apartments, in an area way off the 2600 block of Welsh Road.

The woman was between two cars when she was shot six or seven times, point blank.

FOX 29's Steve Keeley reports that's where she was found, with blood splattered all over. We know she was 38 and from Kensington.

The man she was with managed to drive himself to the hospital despite his serious wounds. His condition has not been released.

At least a dozen shots were fired. Keeley says there were bullet casings all over the remote area, and police have been seeing more bullet holes as the sun comes up. At least two apartments and several cars were also hit.

A third person who was with the victims managed to get away and call police. He said a fourth person did the shooting, and that person is on the loose.

Police do not have a motive yet, but hope to learn more from the wounded survivor and the man who got away. As Keeley put it, "You have to know this spot, to get to this spot," which is why police think the victims were targeted.

In fact, one woman told Keeley she was awakened by gunfire, and then saw her Chrysler 300 on TV and realized that her car was involved.
