Woman struck, killed by falling tree in homeless camp
BRISTOL TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WTXF) - Authorities in Bucks County say a woman living in a homeless camp was killed when a large tree fell on her tent.
Officers were called to a homeless camp in the wooded area between Bristol Pike and Dixon Avenue for a reported of a deceased woman around 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
When police arrived on the scene, witnesses told them a tree had fallen on the woman. After further investigation, police learned the woman's son had been notching a dead tree in attempt to make sure it fell away from the camp. The tree snapped and fell the opposite way, glanced off another tree, and then landed on his mother's tent.
Police say the woman was lying face down in her tent when she was struck by the 50-foot-long tree that was approximately 8-12 inches in diameter.
An autopsy was performed Wednesday and revealed the woman had died from blunt force trauma to the chest.
No charges have been filed.
