Penn State surprises senior football player with full scholarship
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WTXF) - Penn State football coach James Franklin was in the giving spirit this week, as he and the Nittany Lions gear up for another season.
On Tuesday, he gathered the team after practice to surprise long snapper Kyle Vasey with a full scholarship.
The team shared video of the surprise on Twitter.
Coach Franklin starts off by asking the team who was currently working jobs in addition to playing football. He then singles out Vasey and asks him how many hours a week he's working.
Then, Coach Franklin says, "Quit. You're on full scholarship," sending Vasey and his teammates into a celebratory frenzy.
Vasey, a senior, joined the team out of Wallenpaupack (Pa.) Area High School in 2014. After not seeing action in his freshman and sophomore seasons, Vasey started all 13 games as the team's long snapper during the 2017 season.
Vasey's twin brother, Dan, also joined the team as walk-on last September.
