Sixers' top draft pick loses cousin in hit and run
HOBOKEN, N.J. (WTXF/AP) - Family members say the cousin of Ben Simmons, who was picked first by the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA draft, has died after being struck while crossing a street in a North Jersey neighborhood.
Zachary Simmons, 21, died after being struck early Saturday in Hoboken.
Ben Simmons posted a picture with his cousin at Thursday's draft on Twitter. That was just two days before another tweet saying "RIP Zachary Simmons" and "I'm glad I could share this moment in my life with you."
Authorities say the sport utility vehicle that struck the Ramsey man got away. Police are still searching for that vehicle.
