Afternoon snow could bring several inches Friday

Snow has begun to fall across the Philadelphia area Friday afternoon as winter weather advisories go into effect.

FOX 29's Scott Williams projects most of the area should see about an inch or two, with three inches possible in the southern and eastern parts of the area. The winter weather advisories will expire at 9 p.m.

A number of area school districts are announced early dismissals ahead of the snow.

With a recent stretch of bitter cold temperatures, the snow was expected to stick to surfaces instantly.

The timing of the snow could impact the afternoon rush, reducing visibility and slowing travel.

The gusty winds have finally made their way out of the area, but lighter, variable winds are still expected through the day.
