AC Rail Line partly suspended for 2 weeks following crash

NEWARK, N.J. (WTXF) - New Jersey Transit's Atlantic City Rail Line service will remain suspended for two weeks between Philadelphia and Cherry Hill for repairs.

This announcement, made Sunday, is "due to the extensive track damage caused by Friday's rail bridge strike, just east of the Pennsauken Transit Center."

The agency says at about 3:20 p.m., "A garbage container truck struck a rail bridge at River Road on the Atlantic City Rail Line in Pennsauken. Rail service was suspended between Philadelphia and Cherry Hill."

Then, "Track inspectors determined the tracks in the incident area sustained significant damage, and outside construction firms have been brought in to assist with the repairs. Substitute bus service will continue to operate between Cherry Hill and Philadelphia throughout the next two weeks. Additionally, PATCO, River Line light rail and all NJ Transit South Jersey bus routes will continue to cross-honor ACRL tickets and passes throughout the repair efforts."

Trains will continue to operate between Atlantic City and Cherry Hill.

It adds, the driver of the garbage truck was issued a summons for careless driving but commuters should expect longer travel times.
