Activists march in 2016 Philly Global Cannabis March
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Marijuana reform activists and advocates took to the Philadelphia streets Sunday to celebrate significant progress for the topic.
Marchers in the 2016 Philly Global Cannabis March walked from the corner of 8 th and Market Streets at 3:30 p.m. and then proceeded to City Hall.
At City Hall, Representative Jordan Harris will introduce a comprehensive marijuana legalization bill for Pennsylvania. The speeches are set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
"As advocates gather it's important that we look at the next step that we move Pennsylvania in the right direction in how we deal with cannabis," said Rep. Harris.
A few weeks ago, Governor Tom Wolf signed a medical cannabis products bill into law while state legislators passed a hemp research bill.
According to a press release, Philadelphia has reduced marijuana possession arrest by 80 percent and saved an estimated $4 million so far under the decriminalization policy enacted in late 2014.
