Bar fight leads to fatal stabbing in Montgomery County
A deadly stabbing outside a Lower Merion bar has stunned the quiet town on the Main Line. Police say they do know who they are looking for.
LOWER MERION TWP., Pa. - A deadly stabbing outside a Lower Merion bar has stunned the quiet town on the Main Line. Police say they do know who they are looking for.
Officers responded to the intersection of Cricket Avenue and Cricket Terrace in Lower Merion to find a 31-year-old man suffering from stab wounds around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
The victim, identified as Michael Thomas Sides, was pronounced shortly after at a local hospital.
"It’s terrible. It’s scary. I mean, this is a nice area," Sandy Goldschmidt stated. "We’re on the Main Line. So, I don’t know, I always felt comfortable walking around."

Police believe the fatal stabbing stemmed from an altercation at bar in the area, according to early investigations.
"Pretty alarming, because as far as I know, not a lot of crime in this area and, especially not a lot of violent crime," Julian Huss said.
The owner of Jack McShea’s told FOX 29 Sides was one of his employees. He was too upset to go on camera, but says Sides was like family and a beautiful person who worked there for years.
"My prayers go out to their families, but it’s never really had a problem with anything on the street. So, it’s just really surprising. It’s unfortunate," Nico Puracchio said.
Puracchio says he has worked in the area his entire career. He co-owns a salon right on the corner from where the stabbing happened.
"I still think it’s a great place to live and have a business. I mean, things happen everywhere, but I will be more mindful," Lindsay McCullough explained. "Like, if I’m here alone, doors will be locked for the client safety as well. But, I’m not gonna let it make me change my life, because I love Ardmore."
No arrests have been made, but police say there is not threat to the public.
