Beloved Center City mailman bids farewell in a heartwarming letter

A Philadelphia mailman did his best to leave a lasting impression when he wrote a heartwarming farewell letter to a family on his route before he retired.

Mail carrier Mike had worked for the US Postal Service delivering mail to the Kim Rivera Dillon's house in Center City for decades. Before he retired last month, he decided to write the Rivera family a note thanking them for the years they had together.

In his letter he recalls their kindness and compassion while he delivered their mail. He also asked to give a farewell to the family's children and to keep in touch with his phone number that he included in the letter.

Kim tells FOX 29 that Mike was friendly and a ray of sunshine in their neighborhood.

She also says many other people within their community loved him and had similar stories of his kindness as well. A post in a community Facebook group caused other neighbors to share their memories of Mike.

Kim wrote in her post, "My parents received this letter from their old Mail Carrier. He delivered mail to our family home for years, took pride in his job and was simply wonderful. This is one of the many reasons why this area is such a great place to live and raise families. Relationships like this…"
