Bensalem Township fire departments raising money for injured firefighter

The fire in Bensalem that broke out Saturday, May 21 around 9:15 a.m. has left one firefighter out of commission.

Firefighter/EMT Nick Weaver was volunteering with the Nottingham Fire Department that morning when he was seriously injured a little over two weeks ago. Weaver is a career firefighter with Bensalem Township, and a part-time employee with Bensalem EMS.

While trying to battle the house fire, Nick fell approximately 35 feet through the roof, and suffered many injuries to his neck, face and back including a head injury and many back fractures.

He was transported to Aria Torresdale Hospital immediately after the accident, but spent his hospitalization at Jefferson University Hospital where he was recently released. Although he is in stable condition, Nick's road to recovery is expected to be emotionally and physically grueling for not only him, but also for his fiancee Erin.

Erin and Nick recently moved to Bensalem Township, and were busy planning their wedding which was set for early 2017 which has since been postponed. Besides the emotional and physical implications Nick and Erin are facing, they are also suffering severe financial burdens.

With Nick physically incapable of working, and Erin being his primary caregiver, neither of them will be able to work while Nick recovers.

To help relieve the couple of some of their financial burdens, the Bensalem Fire Rescue and Nottingham Fire Department have set up a fund at TD Bank, "as a way for friends and family to show their love and support for two honest, hardworking and incredible people, who mean everything to us," according to Chief Robert Sponheimer.

Any donations can be made directly at any TD Bank with checks payable to "NICK WEAVER BENEFIT FUND," and all donations will go directly towards the couple's living and unexpected expenses during Nick's long recovery.

Both fire departments encourage everyone to make donations, and to help Nick and Erin find tremendous financial relief. Donations can also be made at the Nick Weaver Benefit gofundme page.
