(INSIDE EDITION) The little boy and his mom who found a message in a bottle on a beach have met the woman who wrote it almost three decades ago.
Heather Baird and her five-year-old son, Ryder, discovered the bottle while walking on the beach in Mendocino, California last week.
The message read: "Hi my name is Chris. It says. I am 10 years old and in the 5th grade. I live in Sacramento. Call me when you find this to let me know where it floated to shore."
There was a phone number and date: September 5, 1988.
A search of old phone records by the data analysis company Intellaegis led to Jan Popp, who says she handwrote the message for her son, Chris, while they were on a camping trip.
Jan told INSIDE EDITION: "He told me what he wanted to say and I wrote it and put it in the bottle and put it out there."
Jan invited Heather and Ryder to her home in Sacramento with the help of INSIDE EDITION.
When she saw the bottle, she told them: "I can't believe how good it looks!"
As they chatted about finding the bottle, she asked Ryder: "I bet that was a fun day, huh?"
"It was!" he responded.
Sadly, Jan is now estranged from his her son Chris. They haven't seen each other in almost 19 years.
"I just want to see him again," she said. "I just want to talk to him."
Jan hopes the discovery of the message in the bottle could lead to a reunion with her now 38-year-old son.
"The past is the past, I don't really give a hoot about that," she said.
