Caught on camera: Man steals Halloween decorations

Police say they are searching for a pumpkin thief in New Jersey. The theft has many neighbors shaking their heads.

Who spirits away with Halloween decor in the dead of night? Claudia Williams got her answer when she and her husband rolled back their surveillance footage.

The video shows a grown man driving up to the front porch of their home in Woolwich Township, New Jersey, early Saturday morning. He creeps up and carries away not one, not two but all three pumpkins decorating the doorstep, according to the video. The video shows he can barely hold them as he runs out of frame.

"My first reaction was to laugh I thought it was kind of funny but as I thought about it more it became not so funny that someone would feel comfortable to just come up to our house and take something right off of our porch," Williams told FOX 29.

Even police think it's odd and they're hoping someone can ID the squash snatcher so he doesn't dampen the holidays of another festive family.

Detectives think the not so sneaky suspect is between the ages of 18 and 25 and may have had friends with him in the light colored getaway car seen rushing away so fast they left one of the stolen gourds behind.

The pumpkin thief has neighbors scratching their heads in disbelief.

"Something you can get for a dollar or two dollars. We might just give away for free," said neighbor Chris McKnight.

Three for ten dollars to be exact. Claudia bought them at Acme a few weeks ago.

The new mom isn't worried about the cost, rather:"You should know better than to walk up to someone's property and take something that doesn't belong to you. It's not even about the price of the pumpkins. It's just the principal."
