Couple dies in crash day after wedding

(INSIDE EDITION) - A young Kansas couple died in a car crash just a day after getting married.

Austin Wesson and Rebekah Bouma, both 19, were wed on Friday, but less than 24 hours later, their lives were tragically cut short as their Ford F-150 hit a tree.

Austin died at the scene and Rebekah died early Monday morning at a local hospital. A cause for the accident has not yet been determined, but both Austin and Rebekah were both wearing seatbelts.

"She [Rebekah] is with the Lord that she loved so deeply and so joyfully and she is with her husband of just one day, Austin Wesson, whom she loved with all her heart," Bouma's mother, Rachel Bouma, posted on Facebook.

The couple initially met in February while Rebekah was on a mission's trip in South Africa, where Austin was from. The pair immediately hit it off and spent a lot of time together, continuing their relationship even after Rebekah returned to the U.S.

"It was apparent immediately and she said, 'Mom, I met the guy I think I am going to marry,'" Bouma told InsideEdition.com. "In April, Austin called my husband and asked [him] for permission to date her, which we thought was very special. It was very obvious that he cared so deeply for her."

On a Friday in June, Austin arrived to Kansas for a visit on a visa and by Sunday, the couple was engaged.

Bouma said the pair was ecstatic after they were married. It was a small ceremony with only a few family members, Bouma said. The couple planned to have a larger wedding in September.

"They were so excited. Austin put his arm around her and said 'You are my wife.' He was so excited," Bouma said.

The couple also had future plans to move to Michigan and attend school there, Bouma said.

The young husband and wife will now have a joint funeral.

"They were married and they loved each other so deeply. It was Christ first, and then each other and to separate them would just be wrong," Bouma said.
