Douglasville man convicted for murdering 2-year-old son

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - A Douglasville man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the 2016 murder of his 2-year-old son.

In Douglas Superior Court on Monday, Courtney Craig entered a guilty plea to a count of malice murder and a count of aggravated battery for 2-year-old King Davis' death. Superior Court Judge Cynthia Adams imposed a sentence of life in prison plus 20 years served consecutively.

Police say that Craig had taken King Davis to dinner with his family at Joe's Crab Shack and then took him home on Feb. 29, 2016. The next day, Craig called his mother, saying that King was not breathing.

After calling 911, officials arrived and discovered that King "had been dead for several hours and had visible bruising throughout his body," authorities said.

Craig later told police that he had gotten angry after King called him a name and admitted to hitting King, biting him, and covering his mouth.

King's mother and family were there to watch the sentencing.

In a statement, Acting District Attorney Ryan Leonard commended the family.

"The child's mother and her family showed what true grace and strength is throughout this process, and our thoughts are with them as they move forward and try to gain closure," Leonard said.
