Father charged in infant daughter's violent death

A Chester County man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his own infant daughter earlier this month.

Zion Isaiah Shockley has been charged with first-degree murder and related offenses for allegedly shaking, throwing, and dropping his five-month-old daughter.

Coatesville police officers responded to the 500 block of East Harmony Street for a report of an infant in cardiac arrest. Paramedics transported the child to Brandywine Hospital, and later to A.I. DuPont Hospital for children. She was listed in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries on February 12, 2018.

While in the hospital investigators found the child suffered bleeding from the brain and eyes. Those injuries are consistent with abusive head trauma from both recent and ongoing abuse, according to authorities.

Investigators determined the child was in Shockley's custody at the time of her injuries.

Shockley was ordered to be held without bail.
