High-rise apartment fire injures 1 in Cherry Hill

A cat may be responsible for saving several lives in Cherry Hill after a fire broke out in a high-rise apartment building Monday night.

Jamie Wallace tells FOX 29 she awoke to her cat clawing at her face, which she says the cat has never done, alerting her to the fire.

Wallace was able to alert her sixth-floor neighbor and her wheelchair-bound son, ensuring everyone -- including Wallace's cat -- got out safely.

Neither Wallace nor her neighbor says they heard any smoke alarms go off until they got out in the hallway filled with thick, black smoke.

Only one person was treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
