Male in custody after putting bleach in pregnant girlfriend's water bottle

A 20-year-old man is in custody after deliberately putting bleach in his pregnant girlfriend's water bottle in order to harm their unborn baby.

According to the Lancaster County D.A., the male has been identified as Theophilous Washington, a junior at Millersville University originally from Washington, D.C.

Police say Washington and his approximately 2-month pregnant girlfriend were in his room Thursday night into Friday morning. As the female was leaving, Washington suggested she take a water from his refrigerator.

The female returned to her on-campus room and took a sip from the water bottle. She immediately felt a burning sensation in her throat, vomited, and called 9-1-1. Police responded to the scene.

Washington admitted in a statement to police to putting bleach in the water and stated he did not want his girlfriend to have the child.

Upon medical examination, the female victim, approximately 2-months' pregnant, and the unborn baby are believed to be physically unharmed.

Police say Washington has been charged with a felony count of attempted murder of an unborn child and misdemeanor reckless endangerment. His bail has been set to $1 million.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
