Man, 22, drowns at an Ocean County Beach

Ocean County officials are investigating the drowning death of a man at Ocean County Beach on Saturday.

The incident occurred just after 2:35 p.m.

Lifeguards in Mantoloking, New Jersey called 911 and reported that a 22-year-old male from Yonkers, NY had disappeared from his friends' sight while swimming.

From there, all life stands in the area were notified and an extensive search was put on from the air, shore, and sea. The U.S. Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police, and fire/first aid units from all surrounding municipalities were part of the search.

The victim was found at 3:08 p.m. in the surf unresponsive by lifeguards from the Bay Head Improvement Association.

He was brought to shore where CPR was administered.

Detective Mitch Remig from Ocean County Prosecutors and Point Beach First Aid continued giving CPR before the victim was turned over to EMS.

He was transported to Brick Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The death investigation will be conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI, and Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office.
