Man fatally shoots his wife after mistaking her for an intruder

SAN ANTONIO, TX - A tragic scene out of San Antonio, Texas- after a man shoots and kills his own wife.

Police say the man thought his wife was an intruder. It happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning at a home in Bent Hollow near Bulverde and Evans roads.

The man told police that he woke up and heard strange noises in the house. That's when he decided to grab his gun and fired.

The man tells police it wasn't until he pulled the trigger that he realized his mistake.

"She suffered a gunshot wound to her upper body," said San Antonio Police officer Douglas Green. "EMS made the scene but unfortunately she was pronounced dead at the location.

Police say the woman, who was in her forties, took a fatal shot to the chest.

The shooting is now under investigation, but so far no charges have been filed.
