Man sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatal Wilmington stabbing
WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatally stabbing another man on a busy downtown street in Delaware.
Twenty-nine-year-old Chaz Collazo of Chester, Pennsylvania, was charged with first-degree murder in the December 2016 stabbing of 35-year-old Melvin J. Smith in downtown Wilmington.
Police found Smith bleeding heavily from a stab wound to his neck. Investigators say he died after an altercation inside a sport utility vehicle, which was seen on surveillance camera footage leaving the scene.
Authorities say Collazo stabbed Smith as the two argued about money, then left him to bleed to death on the street.
Collazo was sentenced Sept. 14 after pleading guilty in June to manslaughter and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
