Nick Reiner to be arraigned on murder charges Wednesday

Nick Reiner is set to appear for his arraignment hearing on Wednesday after he allegedly killed his parents, actor-director Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner, last month.

Nick was reportedly taken off suicide watch on Tuesday and will appear at Wednesday’s hearing without the suicide smock and restraints, TMZ’s Branson Quirke told LiveNOW from FOX’s Mike Pache.

Nick Reiner was ‘out of his mind’ weeks before parents' murders

Sources told TMZ that in the weeks leading up to Rob and Michele’s deaths, Nick Reiner’s medications were changed and he was "out of his mind."

What they're saying:

"He has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. His medications were changed several times up until just weeks before the actual murders that he’s being charged with," Quirke said.

It’s believed that Nick will plead not guilty by reason of insanity, according to TMZ’s sources.

Nick remains in custody at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.

Nick Reiner charged in parents’ deaths

The backstory:

Nick Reiner was charged on Dec. 16, 2025, with two counts of first-degree murder.

Rob, 78, and his wife Michele, 70, were killed sometime in the early morning hours of Dec. 14, 2025, the District Attorney’s Office said.

They were found dead late in the afternoon in their home in the upscale Brentwood neighborhood on the west side of Los Angeles, authorities said.

Nick did not resist when he was arrested hours later in the Exposition Park area near the University of Southern California, about 14 miles (22.5 kilometers) from the crime scene, police said.

The two counts of first-degree murder come with special circumstances of multiple murders and an allegation that the defendant used a dangerous weapon, a knife. The additions could mean a greater sentence.
