Officer Hartnett Comes Home

Officer Jesse Hartnett was released from the hospital Friday, just two weeks after he was shot in the line of the duty.

A line of saluting fellow officers were on hand as Officer Hartnett emerged from the hospital into a waiting car. Hartnett was released ahead of tonight's winter storm. He was taken home and is relaxing with his family, Police Commissioner Richard Ross told FOX 29's Dave Schratweiser.

The officer, a 33-year-old five-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, was shot on the night of January 7 while sitting in his patrol car in West Philadelphia. He was wounded in the arm but managed to shoot back at his accused assailant.

On Twitter, the department welcomed him home.
