Pedestrian struck, killed by suspected drunk driver in Claymont

A man has died after Delaware State Police say a driver who is suspected of driving under the influence in Claymont early Friday morning fatally struck him.

The incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. on Governor Printz Boulevard near Hillside Road.

Police say a 38-year-old Wilmington man was struck by a 2004 GMC Yukon and landed in a grassy area on the side of the road. The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver, identified as Bruce C. Bryan of Chester, Pennsylvania, came to a controlled stop and remained at the scene. Bryan, 42, has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Investigators say it is unclear if the victim was attempting to cross the road at the time of the collision, as there are no crosswalks in the area.

The southbound lanes of Governor Printz Boulevard were closed for approximately three hours while investigators worked at the scene.
