Philadelphia among 20 finalists for Amazon's second headquarters

Philadelphia is among 20 finalists to become the home of Amazon's second headquarters in North America.

Pittsburgh, and Newark, New Jersey were also named among the finalists to be selected from the 238 communities that submitted proposals.

Amazon expects to invest over $5 billion in the construction and growth of their second headquarters and hope to create as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs.

The company hopes their second headquarters would be an equal to their current headquarters in Seattle.

Amazon evaluated HQ2 proposals based on outlined criteria to come up with their list of 20 finalists.

In the coming months, Amazon says they will work with each candidate city to dive deeper into their proposals and request additional information as necessary.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney released the following statement following the announcement of the finalists:

"Philadelphia's inclusion in Amazon's Top 20 potential locations for HQ2 is an exciting milestone for the city. We are thrilled at today's announcement, and look forward to working with Amazon's team on the next steps of this process to further highlight all that Philadelphia has to offer."
