Police: 11-year-boy killed in South Philadelphia hit-and-run

Classmates of 11-year-old Julian Angelucci left mementos to mark the spot where the fourth grader was struck and killed by an alleged hit-and-run driver near 10th and Shunk in South Philly.

It happened just after 3 p.m. Friday afternoon as Julian was riding his bike.

Ralph Schaber and another neighbor heard the impact and found Julian lying in the road.

"I just grabbed his hand and hoping that he would squeeze my hand back to get some kind of response cause he wasn't talking and the other man was in his hear saying stay with us stay with us," Schaber said.

Julian's family was too distraught to talk. They shared a photo of their child and told FOX 29 he was a bright, handsome, sweet boy. Officers towed a unscratched black Mazda with New Jersey plates outside the 3rd Police District.

Police sources say the female driver surrendered to authorities sometime before 6 p.m. Friday evening. Sources say she did not appear to have been drinking and that she carried a valid license. Those sources also say the alleged driver may have panicked when she left the scene.

No arrests have been made at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.
