Police investigating car break-in across Lower Merion
LOWER MERION (FOX 29) - Police are investigating over three dozen car break-ins that happened across Lower Merion Township last week.
Investigators say that at least 12 unlocked cars were entered on the evening of Mar. 19th in the areas around the 1900 block of Medford Road and the 800 block of Delmont Drive in Wynnewood.
Police say theives took cash and small electronics from the cars.
"I always lock my car but I still don't like the idea of people sneaking around. I've heard they're wearing hoodies and they know where the cameras are," said Roz Nathanson of Wynnewood.
According to authorities, ten more unlocked cars were entered on Mar. 22nd and Mar. 23rd. Residence on Milbank Road, Airdale Road and Kennedy Lane in Bryn Mawr reported car thefts.
Most recently, on Mar. 23rd, police say nine more unlocked cars were burglarized overnight in Penn Valley and Merion neighborhoods.
Seven additional cars were allegedly entered, but owners reported nothing stolen.
"From what I understand from some people is they're breaking in, they're taking things in order to steal people's identities, not necessarily steal parts of a car or EZ pass, they're looking to seal the identities," said Wynnewood resident, Holly Nelson.
Police advise residents in these areas to lock their cars and do not leave valuables in plain sight. Meanwhile, neighbors like Nelson are keeping the community vigilant of thieves through Facebook and neighborhood group chat.
"It's ridiculous," said Nelson. "You want to feel like you can be at home in your home and they're breaking into our cars. It's a total violation."
