Police: Man approached boys at park

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (FOX 5 WAGA)- Debbie Whittemore and April Ellsberry are both mothers. They find themselves visiting parks weekly, so their little guys, Jordan, Maleeq and Austin, can enjoy the outdoors.

But what should be nice visit to the park has become a bit unnerving after word of a possible predator. There are reports that two boys in Mountain Park in Gwinnett County were approached by a man who made lewd comments and gestures.

"That is ashamed. It seems like nowadays that is all you hear about," said Ellsberry.

"I've not seen anything unusual. We come several times. I am always trying to watch though. Watch who is coming and going, especially watch who gets close to my child," said Whittemore.

Gwinnett County Police told FOX 5 News that on June 5th around 5:20 p.m., a man dressed in a blue shirt and shorts approached two young men and propositioned them for a sexual act.

One of the boys used his cellphone to take the suspect's picture.

"I think it is terrible. It is a park. It is supposed to be a safe place for children and families to come. It's very unfortunate," said Whittemore.

Police said the man is described as being a light-skinned black man, around 5 feet, 7 inches tall.

"We have gotten a lot of awards and accolades for our parks. We certainly don't want to bring any criminal element or have any reasons for our park patrons to be in fear," said Corporal Michele Pihera.
