Police searching for suspect who got away after high-speed chase
DALLAS - A man in a stolen white pickup truck managed to elude police after a high-speed chase from McKinney to Dallas on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers from several different police departments searched for the suspect for hours in the area around the Lakeside at Northpark apartment complex, located south of Walnut Hill Lane near Highway 75 in Dallas. But the man was able to avoid capture.
The chase started in a fenced-in yard off Jay Place in Plano where a landscaping business keeps its work vehicles. The man stole a white Chevy pickup from the work yard and took off.
"The only thing I noticed was when our delivery driver came by and said that somebody almost hit him coming out of the parking lot," said Amber Bouvier, who works nearby. "He actually came back in with a police officer that said that the truck was being stolen."
McKinney police caught up with the driver and started chasing him about 12:30 p.m. During lunchtime traffic. Police followed him to Frisco, then south down 75 through Allen, Plano, Richardson and Dallas -- where he exited the highway near North Dallas.
He clipped other vehicles and several times drove recklessly into oncoming traffic while on side streets. He ignored numerous red lights and made his way to the east side of 75 before entering a parking garage behind an office building near Walnut Hill Lane.
The suspect finally ditched the truck in a parking garage near the Dave and Busters. Video from SKY 4 showed him running through the nearby apartment complex and jump several fences to get away.
DPS searched for him by air and with K9's through a wooded area before calling off the search just before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Through all the close calls, police say no one was hurt.
