Skimming device suspected at self-checkout line in grocery store

Police in Solebury Township are investigating the discovery of an electronic skimming device in the checkout line of a food store.

Officers suspect a card skimming device was placed on a self-checkout debit/credit machine at the Giant Food Store in Logan Square off Route 202.

Police are asking customers of the store to check their financial accounts after they received a number of reports of unauthorized purchases on cards.

It is believed that this skimming device was in place sometime between June 1 and June 10, 2017.

Anyone with information about the case, or with suspicious activity on their accounts is urged to contact police.

Police across Bucks County are currently investigating a number of incidents involving skimming devices.

Giant released the following statement:

"The protection of customer information is very important to GIANT, which has implemented encryption technology at all of its payment terminals to safeguard payment card information.

We are working with the authorities who are investigating numerous reports involving unauthorized use of credit and debit cards.

While no evidence of a skimmer has been found on any register at the GIANT store, we urge customers who shopped at the GIANT stores located in New Hope or Thorndale, PA from June 1 to June 10 to check their credit and debit card statements carefully for unauthorized transactions and contact your bank or financial institution if you have any concerns.

If you have additional questions, you can also call our Customer Care department at 1-800-767-7772."
