Toddler found wandering outside; babysitter unconscious after drinking on job: police
BRIGANTINE, NJ - The Brigantine Police Department is investigating after a toddler that was supposed to be under the care of a babysitter was left unattended Tuesday afternoon.
After thorough investigation, the 35-year-old caretaker was charged with 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.
What we know:
At around 12:33 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Brigantine Police Department after finding an unaccompanied toddler outside their home.
The citizen recognized the child as a neighbor and took them back inside their home.
That’s when police say the neighbor found the toddler’s caretaker unconscious and unresponsive.
Upon arrival, Brigantine authorities provided basic life support to the child’s caretaker and transported her to the hospital.
After being contacted, the child’s parents immediately returned home from work.
Following a thorough investigation with the help of the child's parent, police learned that the caretaker consumed a significant amount of the homeowner’s alcohol to the point of unconsciousness.
Officials charged Jena Davidson, 35, from Ventnor City with 2nd degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Davidson was hired by the child’s parents from a well-known online platform used for childcare.
