WATCH: Fireball streaks through New Jersey sky
HAMILTON TWP, N.J. (WTXF) - Police in New Jersey have released dashcam video of a fireball streaking through the sky early Saturday morning.
The Hamilton Township Police Department say Michael Virga was on patrol when his dashcam caught a fireball in the sky.
The American Meteor Society (AMS) confirmed the sighting after they received numerous reports of the fireball along the east coast.
AMS says 'fireball' is another term for a very bright meteor, or about ehe same brightness of the planet Venus as seen in the morning or evening sky.
AMS added that aa bolide is a special type of fireball which explodes in a bright terminal flash at it's end "often with visible fragmentation."
