WATCH: Hammerhead swipes fisherman's catch
ANNA MARIA ISLAND (FOX 13) - Cue the jaws music -- Except this time, it's not a great white who's on the hunt; it's a hammerhead.
A group of fishermen were out off the coast of Anna Maria Island over the weekend and were reeling in a massive tarpon when suddenly, a hungry someone swam up and stole their catch. It was a large hammerhead shark.
Video shared by Dennis Machado shows the shark's body thrashing in the water for only a moment as it swims up, opens it's jaws wide and then attempts to clench down on the fish.
Lucky for the tarpon, the shark missed by just enough.
Seconds later, both the tarpon and the shark are seen swimming away in opposite directions -- leaving only the rippling water as evidence that the close call ever happened.
Good thing it was caught on video!
