WATCH: What two terrible Ingredients in knockoff perfume?
NEW YORK, NY - Have you ever bought name brand perfume at a discount from a wholesaler? Or maybe at one of the many shops lining Canal street? Well then you may be spraying yourself with human urine. And while human urine might not be harmful, antifreeze sure is. That's the other awful ingredient found in many counterfeit perfumes. With such low prices, we knew something smelled fishy!
Five men in New York have been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for knowingly selling counterfeit versions of your favorite perfumes made with these disgusting ingredients to wholesalers in up to six states.
I.C.E. spokesman Khaalid Walls says that they are seeing more and more counterfeit beauty products hitting the market. You should be aware that "if you're getting a counterfeit beauty product or cosmetic, the reality is you don't know what's in it."
All five defendants are charged with conspiracy and trafficking in counterfeit goods-with each count carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
The rule of thumb? If it seems too good to be true then it probably is.
