Woman, 27, arrested following fatal Barnegat hit and run

BARNEGAT, NJ (WTXF) - Police in Barnegat, New Jersey have arrested a woman following a hit and run that left a 61-year-old woman dead Monday.

An anonymous tip led police to Cassie Hansen, 27, after police say she knowingly left the scene of a crash involving a pedestrian.

Police say Marie Thorne, a 61-year-old Barnegat resident was killed when she was struck by Hansen's car earlier in the day as she crossed Ridgeway Street near Bayview Blvd. Thorne was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.

Police say a citizen spotted Hansen's Chevrolet Silverado after seeing media reports about the incident, and flagged down an officer.

Officers caught up with Hansen at a home later in the day, and she has been charged with second degree knowingly leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.

She was lodged in Ocean County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail with no 10% option.
