Woman gives birth to healthy baby girl after being shot

A woman gave birth to healthy baby girl after being shot Tuesday night in Oxford Circle.

"What I'm currently going through it's like a lot to deal with." Tamaralis Vellon spoke with FOX 29 from her Einstein Hospital room after an overwhelming 24 hours. She just gave birth to her new baby girl Savannah Lyn hours after police say she was shot by her neighbor during an argument.

"I feel like overwhelmed because of my kids' life was in danger at the moment," she said.

It was on the 1500 block of Rosalie Street in Oxford Circle when she says an argument about her children being loud prompted 43-year-old neighbor Onice Cox to pull a gun and fire Tamara-Lease was 9 months pregnant and just 1 day away from her due date when she was shot.

"Everytime I close my eyes I hear the gunshots and I jump up." Madelyne is the mother of the shooting victim and saw it all.

"I always say her intentional target was my daughter because I was there too she could have shot me too if anything. I'll take a bullet any day for my kids," she said.

Never thinking she would welcome her grandbaby into the world while her daughter is suffering from gunshot wounds.

"I was scared and happy at the same time. I was more scared for my daughter," Madelyne said.

She says the bullet narrowly missed main arteries and that Tamara-Lease will be able to walk when she recovers.

In the meantime, Philadelphia police say Cox is in custody facing aggravated assault and gun charges, but the victims are still afraid to go back home.

"Nervous, scared, terrified. All of the above," Madelyne said.
